"I am a humble instrument giving you a technique which is practical, and which can be proved. There is no duality. We do not give the mantra in the ear and we do not make a special mantra for the special person, because we know that one God has created everyone, and He is in everyone, and one master key can open all the locks of darkness and unawareness."
"So that's the power of mantra, because mantra moves the elements—all five elements, plus heavens, plus the Earth."
“What is a mantra? Mantra is two words: Man and tra. Man means mind. Tra means the heat of life. Ra means sun. So, mantra is a powerful combination of words which, if recited, takes the vibratory effect of each of your molecules into the Infinity of the Cosmos. That is called 'Mantra.'”
“Sat Nam is the bij, or seed, mantra. It is small and potent. Great things grow from it. If it is not written in your destiny to be with God and to know higher consciousness, this mantra will engrave it in your destiny.”
Aquarian Teacher p. 113
"When you recite a mantra, you make yourself positive, pure and your vibration is very penetrating."
“It is most powerful when we chant and listen to our sound at the same time. If we chant only, it has half the power. Chanting and listening to the chant at the same time engages the higher consciousness, the circulatory system and the nervous system. When you develop this listening power, you will be able to analyze what is good for you and what is not whenever another person talks. It is a very simple way to have knowledge”
“The whole world may give you support...but if your own mind does not support you, you will not be in a position to do anything in life. Your own mind cannot be controlled and guided and give you the support until it is brought to a discipline. That word which brings a mind to a discipline to support you is called "Mantra." Man-Tra: to bring discipline to the mind.”
"With mantra, your mind works for you and God wants you. That's how beautiful you can be."
“Fantasizing in meditation can be creatively positive if you do japa with it. Keep on cutting the fantasies with a mantra, then it will stop and your mind will be clean. Meditation with a mantra is nothing but day-dreaming. Any thought which you can pass through that meditation and cut it with a mantra will never occur in your life for any negative effect. Meditation and day-dreaming are not two different things. When you meditate, thoughts which you have never been aware of start appearing. Let the thoughts come, but see that the rhythm of the mantra is continuously there.”
“Just see how powerful a mantra can be. All the stars and the Universe are very powerful, I am not disagreeing with the powers. But, by chanting a mantra, just see how powerful you can be.”
"Mantra is that which projects the mind in a fixed direction.”
“Mantra is to stop your thoughts and say, Wahe Guru. That’s a mantra. If there’s a temptation and you can really grab it, instead, stop it and see what comes to you.”
“Mantra is a code of projection to decode the mystery of divinity. And when your mantra is perfect, connection is perfect, you get what it is.”
“We have totally forgotten that this Universe is the outcome of vibration. This Universe is not communication. This Universe is not money. This Universe is not love, it is not sex, it is not beauty, it is not even God. That one line is true: "In the beginning there was the Word, Word was with God, and Word was God." That's all it is about. What is a word? Creative vibration.” 7/18/84
“Japa (chanting) is when you sit and meditate on a mantra and you spend days and days and days in constant repetition of God's name and God progressively calms the ego. The more mild the ego is, the more your finite Infinity starts seeing the Infinite Infinity. First you do things to be secure on Earth. Then you start seeing things beyond Earth, and what is beyond Earth is called higher consciousness...
...When you start seeing that, you become humble, because when you see that kind of greatness you become humble. When you see the creativity of the Creator and you compare it with yourself as a creature, you start seeing the vastness, the happiness. That is how the consciousness becomes happy. Chanting the japa is for this. Even the politicians know something about chanting to create vibrations, to create a magnetic field of energy. We know how to do it. Unconsciously we do it. Meditation in japa is a conscious effect of creating that huge magnetic ether energy to have the grasp of the Infinity.”
“God is everywhere, waiting for you to call. His zip code is His mantra. Mantra is just like that: you take a stone and you throw it in the water, and constant waves go. That is what mantra is all about. It is to be remembered, remembered, remembered; it is to be chanted inside of you with your heart, your mind, your body. The only longing you have is to repeat it. It may be difficult to begin with, but soon God will come through and work for you.”
“What does it mean to master a mantra? When you have repeated it so much, so often, and so well that you hear it within your being, and it comes handy to you—especially at the moment of death—you have mastered a mantra.”
–Yogi Bhajan from Kundalini Yoga: The Flow of Eternal Power, p. 35.
“By vibrating in rhythm with the breath to a particular sound that is proportional to the creative sound, or sound current, one can expand one’s sensitivity to the entire spectrum of vibration. It is similar to striking a note on a stringed instrument. In other words, as you vibrate, the Universe vibrates with you.”
–Yogi Bhajan, The Aquarian Teacher Training Manual, p. 66.
Question: Why do we draw so heavily on the Sikh tradition for the mantras that we use in Kundalini Yoga?
Answer: “Those mantras just happen to be correct mantras. It’s not because they come from the Sikh tradition. The mantra, ‘God and Me, Me and God are One,’ you will not find anywhere, but it works. It is an Ashtang mantra. The sound is correct, so we use it. It doesn’t have to be only in Gurmukhi (the vibratory language of the Siri Guru Granth Sahib). I draw correct mantras from wherever I can. There are tons of mantras—I only use those which I know will be very elementary and will work.”
-Yogi Bhajan, The Aquarian Teacher Training Manual, p. 69.
Mantras are not small things, mantras have power. They are the mind vibration in relationship to the Cosmos. The science of mantra is based on the knowledge that sound is a form of energy having structure, power, and a definite predictable effect on the chakras and the human psyche.
When the self talks to its soul, that is where you find the taste, the juice, the beauty of life.
We are a simple, living, human being and we should watch our living, and hear our inner sound, which is pure love, pure life, pure existence.
